Bunty’s new course regarding Pencil Grasps and Grippers was EXCELLENT!  The course wraps up the loose ends that a beginning OTR or a seasoned one may encounter if they are not skilled in handwriting.  The course explains Pencil Grasps such as Developmental, Efficient and Inefficient Grasps and Bunty gives the OT excellent guidance as to when to work on changing the inefficient pencil grasps.  The most important feature is that the child needs to want to change their grasp and there should be productive teacher consults as to where you want the child to end up.  This can be accomplished with diligence and using the proper pencil grips.  The course goes into detail of all the many pencil grip options currently available and offers suggestions as to what pencil grips to use for the specific inefficient grip that the Occupational Therapist may encounter.  I would highly recommend this short course for a beginning pediatric OT as well as a seasoned one!
